ACT UP Meetings

Footage of ACT UP Meetings is relatively rare and much of what remains is presented here.  The regular meetings were held Monday nights starting at 7 pm and often going until 11.  They were held in Room 101 at the LGBT Center on 13th Street in Manhattan except for a brief period in 1990-1991 when they were moved to the Great Hall at Cooper Union because the membership overflowed the room at the Center.  The meetings were run according to a modified version of Robert’s Rules of Order (often referred to as Roberta’s Rules of Order) by 2 facilitators.  The teams of facilitators were elected every 6 months.  The meetings had an agenda set by the Coordinating Committee that was often augmented or altered just before the general meeting and often during it.  They generally began with reports from the various committees and announcements about upcoming actions and other related material and then went on to discussions about proposed actions, events, zaps and the like.  Just inside the entrance to the meeting was a very long table covered with flyers and Xeroxed copies of information related to the AIDS crisis.
